What a $700 bottle of wine tastes like

They had a free tasting of wine at the Vintage Wine Cellar, including a taste of one of the most expensive and least bottles on our wine list. Verite La Desir. Everything made by Verite is a minimum  rated at 98+. Most of their wines are consistently 99 and 100 points every single vintage which is an unimaginably hard task. There must be something about it that makes it worth the $695 price tag it is on our wine list. The store of course does sell it for much less. Even still, what a treat to be able to try something so unique from such a prestigious producer. Plus if I know what it tastes like, maybe I can sell it to someone who is looking for something like that.

This may come as a shock, but in case you're wondering, it's awesome. Here's how it is: 

There is a little funk from the cab franc but super smooth and delicious with perfectly integrated silky tannins. Plum, pomegranate, earthy with a little cigar box and smoked meat. Med+/full bodied with a long finish. This was the 2009, ours should to be the 2008 which is supposed to be even better. Ours has less Cab Franc (it's 61% vs 74% with the rest being Merlot except a little Cab Sauv and Malbec) the 2008 is rated 100pts by Wine Advocate. 

Long story short if you have the money, it is totally worth it.

Deadpool pairs with '89 Chateau Pichon Longueville

Wine makes food taste better as well as life. I went to an excellent Italian wine dinner complete with Tignanello (one of my favorite Super Tuscans) in both 2010 and 1997 vintages with a Gorgonzola lasagna. A gentlemen sitting across from me felt so inclined to bring additional wines to the ones included in our wine dinner. After much sharing of excellent wines including also 2007 and 2012 Antica Cabernet from California, there was simply too much to drink. So he said I could keep the rest (about half a bottle) both of the '89 Pichon Longueville and '88 Chateau Climens Sauterne.

Me and my girlfriend also had plans that night to go see Deadpool afterwards. So we snuck in the Climens and Pichon to enjoy the movie with. Of course also having the usual popcorn, Coke, and Bunchacrunch. Deadpool was pretty amazing and nothing like enjoying a high end 2nd Growth Bordeaux to enjoy with it!
